Do the vast majority have a positive experience with abortion?

The experience of the Jacarandas Line has shown us that in 98% of cases women and pregnant people can access an abortion without running into barriers along the way. However, is that the reality of access to abortion in Colombia? the facts seem to prove otherwise.

Everyone who writes to the Jacarandas Line is looking for information on how to access their right to abortion. In fact, many of these people don't even know that they have access to abortion and They ask us what to do if someone finds out they are going to have an abortion and calls the police. This shows us that the level of disinformation that exists in society about access to abortion is through the roof. Fortunately, more than 6,000 people have had access to secure and reliable information with the Jacarandas Line, which has helped them to access their rights.

It may seem that 6 thousand people are a lot, however, by 2023 in Colombia there were 18 millions of people of childbearing age, which means that more than 99% of women and pregnant people have not been able to be counseled by the Jacarandas Line and are adrift when trying to access an abortion. The lack of dissemination of information about abortion and the lack of sanctions against those who violate this right only aggravates the problem.

Just start thinking about the more than 100 women who have faced barriers while being counseled by Jacarandas, to ask yourself What about those who are alone? What about those who don't even know that abortion is decriminalized in Colombia and go to clandestine clinics to undergo any procedure? Unfortunately, there are no figures that can guide us on the picture outside the Jacarandas Line. What we can be certain of is that although the picture in the Jacarandas Line is positive, for other women and pregnant people it may not be so good.
